Welcome to Fairfax City
Although Fairfax City is the county seat of Fairfax County, it is an independent city and was incorporated in 1961.
Fairfax City has some interesting history associated with it. It was the site of the first land battle of the Civil War, the Battle of Fairfax Courthouse, and, two years later, at a second battle near the Courthouse, Union troops were defeated, but Jeb Stuart was delayed, which was to have consequences at Gettysburg.
Fairfax City is home to George Mason University, one of several public universities in Virginia. There's also the Mason Enterprise Center, which serves small business interests, offering classes and counseling to County business owners.
As the County seat, the Courthouse and Judicial Center are also located in the city.
There are a variety of shopping and dining options, including quaint shops and non-chain options. While there isn't a mall directly in the City, Fair Oaks Mall is an easy drive away.
Commuting is easy with several ways to access the major interstates in the area.
The high school serving Fairfax is Fairfax High School, part of the excellent Fairfax County school system.
